F.A.Q

Answers to questions:

Can I take a course if I'm alone?

Yes, you can.

Can I get a ride to the course?

Possibly, if you live somewhere more or less on the way from Malmö to the course. We can split the cost of gas for the trip.

Is climbing dangerous?

Compared to other sports, not really. But it's never 100% safe either. As soon as you step off the ground and start climbing upwards, there is a risk of falling back down again, even if that risk is pretty small. Statistically, rock climbing is safer than football, and accidents are rare, especially when climbing with ropes indoors. Read more about risks in climbing here.

Can anyone start climbing?

If you are able to move around and ascend a ladder, then you can climb rocks as well. The trick is to find a suitable place and difficulty level that works for you. This is true whether you have a disability of some kind, or whether you are an elite athlete, or you're an elite athlete with a disability. It's the same as with any other sport. Not everyone can play football as well as Messi, but you don't need to play as well as Messi to be able to play and have fun.

Do you have a calendar where I can check your availability?

Kind of, yeah! Go to the booking form on the front page of this site. Pick a course and then click the date you want. If there are times available in the time picker, I'm available. If the time slots are grayed out, then I don't have time for that particular course. Dates that are highlighted in gray are completely full.

Are there bathrooms at the place where we do the course?

In most cases, no. Not once we're at the crag.

Can I buy food or refill my water bottle during the course?

In most cases, no. Not once we're at the crag.

What is "trad"?

Trad stands for traditional style climbing. It's a type of climbing where there is nothing at all on the wall before we start climbing. You place metal nuts and spring loaded cams in cracks in the rock and then clip your rope to those to protect yourself in case of a fall. Once you're done climbing, you remove everything and take it home.

Is climbing expensive?

It depends. If you want to start bouldering, you basically just need a pair of shoes and something to land on. If you get things second-hand then it's not particularly expensive. If you want to climb on top rope or lead indoors, then you'll need a few more things, and you'll probably end up paying about 2000-3000 kr in total, plus about 1000-2000 kr if you need a rope of your own as well. Sport climbing outdoors requires a few more things, and ice climbing and trad climbing require quite a few quite expensive items.

Here are some examples of what things cost (new, not second-hand):

  • Climbing shoes: 700-2500 kr
  • Harness: 800-2000 kr
  • Belay device: 150-1800 kr
  • Carabiner: 100-400 kr
  • One quickdraw: 160-350 kr
  • One cam: 800-1600 kr
  • Crashpad: 1200-4000 kr
  • 120 cm sling: 60-300 kr
  • 60 m dynamic rope: 1900-3000 kr
